Tomato and Mozzarella Salad – Caprese Salad 3 Ways
Tomato and Mozzarella Salad, the Caprese Salad, is layered with juicy fresh tomatoes, creamy fresh mozzarella, and flavorful fresh basil. Finish it with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and you have a crowd pleaser. I’ll show you how to present this classic dish in three different ways.

— Caprese Salad – classic presentation (serves 4)
4 vine ripe tomatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick
1 pound fresh mozzarella, sliced 1/4 inch thick (buy pre-sliced if you can)
16-20 basil leaves
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon red wine or balsamic vinegar
Salt & pepper
Starting with a slice of tomato, layer tomato, cheese, and basil on a large plate or platter. Season with salt & pepper, then drizzle with olive oil and vinegar.

Starting with a slice of mozzarella, stack a slice of tomato then the basil. Repeat. Use 3 slices of cheese, tomato and 3 basil leaves. Secure with a toothpick or skewer. Season with salt and pepper, drizzle with olive oil and vinegar.

2 pints cherry tomatoes
8 ounces cherry sized fresh mozzarella balls, drained
1 pint Kalamata olives (pitted)
16-20 basil leaves large basil leaves
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon red wine or balsamic vinegar
Salt & pepper
On a skewer or long toothpick, start with the a tomato, then add a basil leaf, a mozzarella ball, and finish with the olive. Once all are assembled, season with salt and pepper, drizzle olive oil and vinegar.
Other options: add salami or pepperoni, or use marinated mozzarella balls.
