How to Steam Shrimp – Basic Kitchen Skills
Everyone loves shrimp, but most people overcook it by boiling it. Steaming is much gentler on seafood and locks in the flavor. Learning how to steam shrimp is easy and more convenient than boiling since you need less water and don’t have to wait as long for it to come to a boil. Add some Old Bay seasoning, red wine vinegar and lemon to the water to create a fragrant and tasty steam bath for your shrimp – you will never go back to boiling seafood.
=== 🍽🍸🥩 RECIPE ===
4 ounces (120 ml) of water
4 ounces (120 ml) of red wine vinegar
Juice of 1/2 of a lemon
3 tablespoons of Old Bay Seasoning
Equipment: Steamer pot
Add water, red wine vinegar, lemon juice and Old Bay seasoning to a steamer pot and bring to a rolling boil. Add shrimp to the steamer basket and steam for 4 or 5 minutes tossing them after a few minutes to ensure the shrimp cooks evenly. Shrimp is done when the shells have turned a pinkish orange and are still opaque being careful to not overcook. 1 minute can be the difference between tender shrimp and overcooked mealy shrimp.
Optional: Lightly sprinkle Old Bay seasoning over the shrimp before serving.
