Chef Knives for Beginners – Basic Skills Day

It’s Basic Skills Day with Chef Knives for Beginners. A classic chef’s knife, with its broad, tapering blade, sharp tip and chunky handle is the workhorse of the kitchen. Practicing with one really will make you a better cook: they are sharper, stronger and they do more of the work for you than smaller knives. For many home cooks, an 8-inch blade especially to start. Work up to a 10-inch knife, which is more efficient overall.

I will demonstrate how to grip a knife and the two most common techniques – the helping hand technique called the claw for dicing and the flat hand for chopping.

All you need to practice is a large cutting board and stalks of celery.
